Russia demands UN Secretariat hold unbiased investigation into Nord Stream sabotage - Lavrov

MOSCOW. March 9 (Interfax) - Russia insists on the UN Secretariat's investigation into the blasts of the Nord Stream gas pipelines, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.

"We, the Russian Federation, have submitted a resolution to the UN Security Council requesting that the UN Secretariat organize an unbiased investigation. I believe that the publicly available facts and the shameful reaction of Western media outlets to these facts, which has been demonstrated in recent days, will not go unnoticed," Lavrov said at a press conference on Thursday.

"Any conscientious member of the international community should insist on an unbiased, objective investigation so that the organizers of this terror attack do not evade responsibility," he said.

"I view the attempts to explain this with references to certain Western security services and the deeds of a certain 'Ukrainian oligarch' as shameful for those who are pushing for this theory via controlled Western media outlets," Lavrov said.

Lavrov noted that the UN Secretariat has exhibited "complete passivity and aloofness" in this issue. "Both the secretary general and his employees are doing their best not to react to these fair questions," Lavrov said.
