Russian Baltic Fleet reports simulated launches of Iskander missiles near Kaliningrad

MOSCOW. March 10 (Interfax) - Simulated launches of Iskander short-range missiles have taken during a drill in the Kaliningrad region, the press service for Russia's Baltic Fleet said on Friday.

"Missile units picked up and loaded missiles into transporter-loaders consistent with standards. Later on, they met the standards of transferring missiles into self-propelled launch vehicles, stealthily deployed to firing positions, and performed training (electronic) salvo launches," the press service said.

The drills involved self-propelled launch vehicles and transporter-loaders of Iskander-M systems, it said.

The Iskander-M short-range ballistic missile system is a product of the Kolomna Mechanical Engineering Design Bureau, which is a Rostec's High Precision Systems Holding. The system uses ballistic and cruise missiles. Officially, Iskander-M missiles have a top range of 500 kilometers.
