CHISINAU. March 10 (Interfax) - NATO will continue to cooperate with Moldova in terms of strengthening the country's institutional and democratic sustainability, NATO Deputy Secretary General, Mr. Mircea Geoana said during a meeting with Moldovan Interior Minister Ana Revenco in Brussels on Friday.
Geoana noted at the meeting that the country faced a broad spectrum of hybrid threats, the press service for the Moldovan Ministry of the Interior told Interfax. "In strict conformity with the constitutional mechanisms of the Republic of Moldova, NATO will continue practical cooperation in strengthening the institutional and democratic sustainability of the state," the press service quoted Geoana as saying.
Speaking at the Munich Security Conference earlier, on February, Moldovan President Maia Sandu asked Western partners for assistance in acquiring air defense systems.
Under the constitution, Moldova is a neutral country. More than 60% of its population are believed to support the idea that the country's neutrality must be preserved. About 25% of Moldova's residents are ready to vote for joining the North Atlantic Alliance.
