Russian court jails Ural resident for attempted smuggling of military products

CHELYABINSK. March 15 (Interfax) - A city court in the Krasnodar Territory has handed down a sentence to a Chelyabinsk resident charged with the attempted smuggling of military products, the press service for the Chelyabinsk regional branch of the Federal Security Service (FSB) said on Wednesday.

"The man was detained by FSB operatives while preparing a cargo shipment across the state border in the Krasnodar Territory. The products of a defense plant in the Chelyabinsk region were intended for a recipient acting in the interests of Ukraine," the statement said.

Officers of the Chelyabinsk regional branch of the FSB uncovered the smuggling channel in 2021, the press service told Interfax. In August of the same year, the cargo was detained while trying to cross the state border. The local police department initiated a criminal case.

The Armavir city court found the South Ural man guilty of attempted smuggling and sentenced him to three years in a standard-security penal colony.
