Russian Prosecutor General's Office gets 17 foreign NGOs banned in past year - prosecutor (Part 2)

MOSCOW. March 15 (Interfax) - The Russian Prosecutor General's Office has secured a ban on the activities of 17 foreign nongovernmental organizations in the past year, and another 23 such organizations have been designated as undesirable in Russia, Prosecutor General Igor Krasnov said.

"At our initiative, 23 foreign and international nongovernmental organizations have been designated as undesirable in the past year, and the activities of 17 others have been completely banned," Krasnov said at a Prosecutor General's Office board meeting reviewing the outcomes of 2022 on Wednesday.

The Prosecutor General's Office has also filed motions on blocking 125,000 webpages circulating fake information on the special military operation and mobilization, he said.

"There are still a lot of those seeking to disturb the calmness of Russians and sow panic and fear among them, and the methods they use have been increasingly more sophisticated," he said.

"The scope of anti-Russian propaganda and calls for violence and unlawful public activities has grown multifold. These processes have involved increased activities of Western nongovernmental organizations and the Russian nonprofit sector under their control," Krasnov said.

The prosecutor general called on his subordinates "to continue working in close coordination with law enforcement agencies and jointly ensure antiterrorist protection of critical and transport infrastructure and crowded places," he said.

"We have spoken about this on numerous occasions, but threats coming from Kiev have set an absolutely different tone to the formulation of said objectives," he said.

"Citizens should feel calm and be sure that there is no danger to their lives and health," he said.
