MOSCOW. March 16 (Interfax) - Moscow's Basmanny Court, in response to an investigator's motion, handed down a custody term in absentia to media manager Ilya Krasilshchik, designated in Russia as a foreign agent, who has been accused of disseminating knowingly false information about the Russian Armed Forces, a court spokesperson told Interfax on Thursday.
"The court imposed a restraining measure on Ilya Krasilshchik in the form of a two-month custody term following his extradition to Russia or his detention in Russia," the court spokesperson said.
Krasilshchik was charged in absentia with publicly disseminating false reports about the Russian army's actions and passing off these claims as reliable information. He was put on the international wanted list.
His steps to spread information, which investigators view as false, about the Russian Armed Forces' actions during the special military operation in Ukraine are at the center of the criminal case.
Krasilshchik, a Russian media manager, was previously editor-in-chief of the Afisha magazine and publisher of the Meduza online media outlet, which is designated in Russia as a foreign agent and an undesirable organization.
