YEKATERINBURG. March 17 (Interfax) - The administrative arrest term of Yekaterinburg's former mayor Yevgeny Roizman (designated by the Russian Justice Ministry as a foreign agent) has been appealed, Roizman's lawyer Vladislav Idamzhapov told Interfax on Friday.
"Yes, I have lodged an appeal. It is highly likely that the court will consider the appeal in the afternoon," Idamzhapov said.
The Leninsky District Court of Yekaterinburg on March 16 found Roizman guilty of propaganda or public demonstration of attributes or symbols of extremist organizations, or other attributes or symbols the propaganda or public demonstration of which are prohibited by federal laws and sentenced him to 14 days of administrative arrest.
An administrative report was compiled against Roizman over a repost on VK in February 2022.
The ex-mayor himself said that he finds these accusations absurd as he has never used this social media platform.
Roizman was detained in Yekaterinburg on August 24, 2022. He was later indicted under the Russian Criminal Code for public actions aimed at discrediting the use of the Russian Armed Forces. The court ordered that he be prohibited from certain activities. In particular, Roizman cannot use the Internet and other means of communications with some exceptions. Roizman himself denied any wrongdoing.
The Russian Justice Ministry added Roizman to the list of foreign agent individuals last fall.
