U.S.-based Wikimedia Foundation faces fine up to 12 mln rubles over refusal to remove fakes from Wikipedia - Moscow court (Part 2)

MOSCOW. March 21 (Interfax) - A justice of the peace in Moscow has registered new administrative liability protocols against U.S.-based Wikimedia Foundation Inc. filed by the Russian telecom watchdog Roskomnadzor over failure to delete content banned in Russia.

"In April, the court will consider three administrative protocols against Wikimedia Foundation Inc., in which the organization is charged with an offense described in Part 2 of Article 13.41, which is failure to remove content prohibited in the Russian Federation," a court representative told Interfax.

If the court finds Wikimedia guilty, it will face up to 12 million rubles in fines. The justice of the peace of the judicial district No. 422 of Moscow's Tagansky District is expected to consider the protocols on April 6, 13 and 18.

According to the court, Roskomnadzor's protocols deal with the refusal to delete fakes about Russia's special operation in Ukraine, as well as banned information about train surfing.

Previously, a Russian court repeatedly fined Wikimedia Foundation Inc. "for refusal to delete false information about the special operation in Ukraine."

Roskomnadzor said earlier that as Wikimedia Foundation Inc. does not comply with its obligation to remove illegal information, coercive measures in the form of notifying users in search engines of the fact that the company violates Russian laws are taken against it.

"A number of prohibited materials, including fakes about the special military operation in Ukraine, remain undeleted from Wikipedia, owned by Wikimedia Foundation Inc.," the watchdog said.

Measures against Wikimedia Foundation Inc. will be in place until the foreign entity completely eliminates the violations of Russian laws, it said.
