Russian top prosecutor invites Thailand to share best anti-corruption practices

BANGKOK. March 23 (Interfax) - Russia is interested in establishing close contacts with Thailand's National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC), Russian Prosecutor General Igor Krasnov said at a meeting with NACC President Watcharapol Prasarnrajkit in Bangkok.

"We are interested in establishing close contacts with the commission you lead, including sharing best practices. We have considerable experience in exercising control over the expenditure and income of public officials, seizing corrupt assets, and conducting anti-corruption inspections of legal acts," Krasnov said.

He noted that the Russian party is actively involved in "cross-border anti-corruption formats and the development of international initiatives, including the estimation of corruption in global and regional monitoring mechanisms."

The Russian Prosecutor General's Office has contact offices of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation regional network of law enforcement and anti-corruption agencies. Additionally, the oversight agency deals with uncovering, arrest, seizure and return of assets obtained as a result of corrupt activities.

"I suggest further strengthening joint efforts in these areas and ensuring synchronization of positions at international anti-corruption platforms," Krasnov said.

He proposed that the Thai NACC president consider concluding a cooperation agreement between the two oversight agencies, as well as drawing up a program of joint activities of mutual interest.
