Russian ships 'destroy' mock enemy sub at Baltic Sea drills

MOSCOW. March 23 (Interfax) - Russia's Aleksin and Kabardino-Balkaria small anti-submarine ships practiced searching for, detecting and destroying a mock enemy submarine during an exercise in the Baltic Sea, the Russian Baltic Fleet's press service said on Thursday.

"During the training mission at sea, the small anti-submarine ships of the Baltic naval base practiced the following anti-submarine actions - searching for, detecting, maintaining contact with, tracking and counteracting a mock enemy submarine using anti-submarine weapons systems," the press service said.

The ships also practiced using RBU-6000 rocket launchers and simulated the use of torpedo weapons, it said.

"At the fleet's maritime training ranges, the ships practiced repelling mock enemy air raids from different altitudes and directions and simulating the use of air defense systems," the press service said.

They also fired artillery weapons at a small ship-like target located at a considerable distance, it said.
