BRUSSELS. March 27 (Interfax) - EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell has announced the European Union's readiness to impose additional sanctions on Minsk if Belarus hosts Russian nuclear weapons in its territory.
"Belarus hosting Russian nuclear weapons would mean an irresponsible escalation and threat to European security," Borrell said on Twitter on Sunday.
"Belarus can still stop it, it is their choice. The EU stands ready to respond with further sanctions," he said.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said on March 25 he had agreed with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko on the deployment of Russian tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus.
