Patrushev says AUKUS directed against China, Russia

MOSCOW. March 27 (Interfax) - AUKUS, the defense alliance between Australia, the UK and the U.S., is directed against China and Russia, Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev said.

"The U.S.' Indo-Pacific strategy is an attempt to create an Asian NATO. The new alliance will be another aggressive bloc directed against China and Russia, and also [designed] to reign in currently independent states," Patrushev said in an interview with Rossiyskaya Gazeta.

"The rearming of the Australian navy as part of the new AUKUS alliance, including with the delivery of nuclear-powered submarines, the military support for Taiwan and South Korea, have the long-term objective of establishing U.S. and NATO dominance over Eurasia from the eastern flank of the latter," he said.
