Azerbaijan finalizing engineering, fortification work along Armenia's border in Lachin district - Aliyev

BAKU. March 28 (Interfax) - Engineering and fortification work is nearing completion along the Armenian border in the Lachin district of Azerbaijan, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said.

"I can say that all engineering and fortification work done in the Lachin district, along the border with Armenia, is nearing completion. Historically unprecedented roads have been built, and roads between villages in the Lachin and Kalbajar districts are hundreds of kilometers long. There are also roads to military positions," Aliyev said on Tuesday, as he met with newly appointed presidential representative to the Lachin district Masim Mamedov.

Azerbaijani forces have secured advantageous positions along the Azerbaijani-Armenian border, Aliyev said. "From now on, a key task for us is to ensure security of the Lachin district and the soonest return of formerly displaced persons. [...] Indeed, other steps are being taken to ensure security of the Lachin district, measures are being taken, which will allow our fellow citizens to live a comfortable and safe life after they return," he said.
