Russian combat helicopters practice in Tajikistan

YEKATERINBURG. March 28 (Interfax) - Mil Mi-24 attack helicopters and Mi-8MTV5-1 military transport helicopters from the Russian military base have practiced aerial reconnaissance and evasion of hostile MANPADS in the mountains of Tajikistan, the Russian Central Military District's press service said on Tuesday.

"Nap-of-the-earth flights were tested as the most effective use of Russian aircraft in the highlands, alongside countering of illegal armed units armed with MANPADS," the press service said.

The pilots also mastered simple and complex piloting skills, reconnaissance of mock enemy sites, passage through ravines, and landing on altitudes of up to 3,000 meters above sea level.
