Security situation at Zaporozhye NPP not improving - IAEA director general (Part 2)

ENERGODAR. March 29 (Interfax) - The security situation at the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) is not improving amid the continuing combat operations, International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi said.

Speaking to journalists at the conclusion of his visit to the ZNPP on Wednesday, Grossi said it was obvious to him that the situation was not improving and, on the contrary, the intensity of the fighting in the area was increasing.

He called for all possible measures to be taken to safeguard the plant from any attacks.

Grossi said his main goal was nuclear safety and security, and to achieve it he was working with both Kiev and Moscow to make sure the ZNPP is properly protected.

A concept is being developed to ensure the ZNPP's proper protection, which implies local measures rather than territorial ones, he said.
