Troops in Siberia develop protection for Yars strategic missile systems against space reconnaissance

MOSCOW. March 29 (Interfax) - The Russian Strategic Missile Systems have practiced protecting Yars strategic missile systems against aerial and space reconnaissance during an exercise in Siberia, the Russian Defense Ministry said on Wednesday.

"During the exercise, missile units for the first time used equipment designed by the research center of the Peter the Great Academy of the Strategic Missile Forces to lower the visibility of missile systems in the infrared range, in order to hide detachments of the Russian Strategic Missile Forces from aerial and space reconnaissance," the ministry said.

The troops drilled new methods of using drones, including to detect AI-based objects, and practiced dispersal of the formation's supplies, based on the experience of special missions carried out by the Russian Armed Forces.

The Russian Defense Ministry said on March 29 that a command-post exercise involving Yars strategic systems had begun in Siberia.

According to the ministry, it involves over 3,000 troops and about 300 vehicles, including Yars road-based mobile missile systems.

The Strategic Missile Forces is a branch of the Russian Armed Forces and a chief component of its strategic nuclear forces, which is tasked with nuclear deterrence of possible aggression.

According to official reports, silo-based and road-based Yars intercontinental ballistic missile systems are the core of the Russian Strategic Missile Forces, with a top range of 11,000 kilometers. The missiles carry maneuverable re-entry vehicles.
