IAEA delegation leaves Zaporozhye NPP

ENERGODAR. March 29 (Interfax) - A delegation of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) led by the organization's Director General Rafael Grossi has wrapped up its visit to the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) in Energodar and left the plant, an Interfax correspondent said on Wednesday.

The motorcade left at about 3:40 p.m. Moscow time. They were at the plant for a little over three hours.

The visit to the plant began with a meeting of IAEA experts with the ZNPP management, including its director Yury Chernichuk. Renat Karchaa, advisor to the head of Rosenergoatom Concern, also represented the Russian side.

After that, the experts were shown the mitigated effects of last year's Ukrainian shelling and the results of work to improve the plant's security. These include turbine and transformer oil tanks, the nitrogen and oxygen station, splash pools, the nuclear waste storage facility, and a number of other facilities. Additionally, the experts were able to get acquainted with the operation of the radiation, chemical and biological safety equipment that is on duty at the plant.

"The main outcome is the following: we are open to dialogue, we are open to answers to any questions, we are open to finding solutions and mechanisms to ensure solutions aimed at the most important thing. And the most important thing is to ensure nuclear safety," Karchaa told reporters following the IAEA delegation's visit.

He also added that the Russian party would be grateful to the IAEA "for its reaction to various kinds of psychological pressure [on ZNPP employees] and recommendations for the Ukrainian side to refrain from such actions."
