St. Petersburg police seize over 200 kilograms of Latin American cocaine

MOSCOW. March 31 (Interfax) - St. Petersburg police have seized a 200-kilogram cocaine shipment from Latin America, Russian Interior Ministry spokesperson Irina Volk said.

"A line supplying large quantities of cocaine to the Russian Federation from Latin American countries has been shut down. The police seized over 200 kilograms of cocaine with a black market value exceeding 800 million rubles," Volk told reporters on Friday.

Two locals with a lengthy criminal record were detained in St. Petersburg, she said, adding that they stashed the drugs on a fruit truck.

A criminal case was opened on counts of attempted crime and illegal production, distribution or transportation of drugs, psychotropic substances or their analogues.

Police are identifying those who smuggled the drugs to Russia and their distribution schemes.
