Director of Kazakh Foreign Intelligence Service replaced

ASTANA. April 3 (Interfax) - Askar Amerkhanov has been appointed to the post of director of Kazakhstan's Foreign Intelligence Service, the Kazakh presidential press service said on Monday.

"By order of the head of state, Askar Baimerdenovich Amerkhanov has been appointed deputy chairman of the National Security Committee of Kazakhstan and director of the Foreign Intelligence Service after being relieved of his previous duties," the press service said.

Amerkhanov had served as deputy chairman of the National Security Committee since January 2022.

President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev issued another decree to relieve Gabit Baizhanov of the post of National Security Committee deputy chairman and Foreign Intelligence Service director, which Baizhanov had held since October 2019.
