Russian military planes to drop bombs, conduct missile launches at drills in Kaliningrad region - Baltic Fleet

MOSCOW. April 3 (Interfax) - More than 15 Russian military aircraft are taking part in an exercise in the Kaliningrad region, Russia's Baltic Fleet said on Monday.

"Sukhoi Su-30SM, Su-30SM2, Su-24 and Antonov An-26 planes from the mixed aviation regiment of the fleet's air force started to tackle their missions as part of a tactical flight exercise," the fleet's press service said.

"In all, more than 15 planes and over 300 servicemen of the aviation regiment of the Baltic Fleet's air force are participating in the drills," it said.

The planes will tackle their training missions during the day and at night, performing about 50 flights, during the exercise, it said.

"The training flights involve tactical episodes to drill combat missions, i.e., provide fire support to ground forces, destroy mock enemy command posts, armored hardware and troops and conduct air reconnaissance," the press service said.

The aircraft will drop bombs on a target field and will fire unguided missile at coastal targets on a training ground in the east of the Kaliningrad region, it said.

"The aircraft will launch guided and unguided airborne missiles of different types, will fire onboard guns, will drop bombs weighing 100 kilograms to 500 kilograms, and will practice maneuvers of an air-to-air encounter and a strike run amid the use of jamming equipment by the mock enemy," the press service said.
