MAGAS. April 3 (Interfax) - The operational headquarters of the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) Directorate for Ingushetia has launched a counterterrorist operation in a district of the republic, the directorate's press service said in a statement on Monday.
"For the purpose of preventing terrorist attacks and crimes of terrorism, the head of the FSB Directorate for the Republic of Ingushetia, Major General [Dmitry] Kechkin has decided to conduct a counterterrorist operation in the Malgobek district of the Republic of Ingushetia from 8 p.m. April 3, 2023," the statement said.
At around 4:50 p.m. on the outskirts of Malgobek, on-duty officers were searching the area to locate and apprehend people who attacked the Volga-14 road patrol post on March 27, according to data from the Ingushetia anti-extremism center.
"As a result, the suspects were found near a sheep barn and opened fire from an assault rifle against the law enforcers," the center told Interfax.
During the exchange of gunfire, one officer sustained a tangential wound, the source said. The assailants fled in a car in an unknown direction. Their whereabouts have yet to be established.
The Russian Investigative Committee's Investigative Directorate for North Ossetia has launched an inquiry into the March 27 attack on charges of an attempt on the life of a law enforcement officer.
