MOSCOW. April 4 (Interfax) - Over 400 children have been returned to Russia over the five years of a humanitarian mission to repatriate children from areas of armed conflict in the Middle East, Russian Children's Rights Commissioner Maria Lvova-Belova said.
"Over the five years of the mission, more than 400 children have been discovered at shelters, prisons, and prisoner of war camps in Syria and Iraq and returned to their homeland, to their families and relatives," Lvova-Belova said at a press conference at the Russian Foreign Ministry press center.
These children "witnessed violence, [and] they could not properly study and receive proper nutrition while living in refugee camps," and they are now undergoing rehabilitation, she said.
