Duma ratifies Russian-Syrian treaties on extradition, mutual legal assistance

MOSCOW. April 5 (Interfax) - The Russian State Duma voted on Wednesday to ratify treaties between Russia and Syria on extradition and on mutual legal assistance in criminal matters.

Both treaties were signed in St. Petersburg on June 29, 2022.

The treaty on extradition aims to promote more efficient cooperation between the two countries in fighting crime, and obliges the parties to extradite wanted persons at each other's request for their prosecution, or for enforcing their conviction for committing crimes entailing extradition.

The other treaty aims to promote interaction in providing mutual legal assistance in criminal matters.
