MOSCOW. April 5 (Interfax) - The Alexander Obukhov and Viktor Sigalov minesweepers have conducted firing exercises at air and sea targets in the Baltic Sea, the press service for the Russian Baltic Fleet said on Wednesday.
"Consistent with the training exercise plan, minesweepers from the formation guarding the waters of the Baltic Naval Base fired artillery at airborne targets and floating mines of a mock enemy at ranges in the Baltic Sea," the press service said.
"The exercise involved 30mm AK-306 artillery systems and 14.5mm MTPU naval pedestal machine guns, which hit air targets - pyrotechnic charges and incendiary munitions fired by a 152mm Akatsiya self-propelled howitzer from Cape Taran," it said.
The minesweepers also destroyed mockups of floating mines, the press service said.
"After completing the joint assignment, the Alexander Obukhov base minesweeper practiced anti-mine actions, successfully detecting and removing a UDM-500 bottom mine using a deep-water sweep," it said.
On April 3, the Russian Baltic Fleet announced the beginning of control checks involving firing drills by ships and ground forces and aircraft operations. The checks are held at the end of the winter training season and will last for several weeks, the press service said.
