MOSCOW. April 5 (Interfax) - Russia expects Denmark to support the proposal on setting up an international commission to investigate the acts of sabotage on the Nord Stream gas pipelines, Russian President Vladimir Putin said while accepting credentials from foreign ambassadors on Wednesday.
"Our official relations with Denmark have spanned 530 years. Even the reigning houses of the two countries were related in the past. As is known, Maria Feodorovna, the spouse of Emperor Alexander III, was of Danish origin. That is, our states have always been close to each other historically and behaved as good neighbors in the Baltic Sea," Putin said at the ceremony, whose participants included the Danish ambassador to Russia.
The current situation in the Baltic Sea is "turbulent in a literal sense," Putin said. "I'll mention above all the acts of sabotage on the Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines in September 2022. We hope, Mr. Ambassador, that the Danish side will support our proposal on instituting an independent international commission to establish all circumstances of the incident," Putin said.
