Russian military accuses U.S. aircraft of breaching agreements on Syria flight safety

KHMEIMIM. April 6 (Interfax) - Russian forces in Syria have accused the U.S.-led Western coalition of systematically violating the safety procedures for aircraft flying over Syria.

"Grave violations of the de-confliction protocols and the memorandum on the safety of flights over Syria continue [to be made] by the U.S.-led so-called international coalition. These violations have been intentional and systematic, and their number increased significantly from the past year," deputy head of the Russian Center for the Reconciliation of Opposing Sides in Syria Oleg Gurinov said.

Speaking at a press briefing on Wednesday, Gurinov said that 210 violations related to flights by the "coalition's" unmanned aerial vehicles and aircraft were recorded in March 2023.

He also said that militants from a terrorist group near Qawqaba in the Idlib province had attempted to penetrate an area controlled by Syrian government forces.

Two Syrian soldiers died and another four were injured while repelling the attack, and nine militants were also killed, he said.
