Military training center to open in Russia's Cherkessk

CHERKESSK. April 6 (Interfax) - A military training center based at the North Caucasus State Academy is being established in Cherkessk, the capital of Russia's internal republic of Karachayevo-Cherkessia, Chairman of the Russian Federation Council's Defense and Security Committee Viktor Bondarev said at a meeting in Cherkessk on Thursday.

"A great deal of work has been done to create a military training center at the premises of the North Caucasus State Academy. All measures have been implemented. We are awaiting a Defense Ministry commission which will arrive in November, following which the military training center will start to function," Bondarev said.

A building for the military training center in Karachayevo-Cherkessia has also been allocated and teaching staff are being trained, he said.

According to information on the North Caucasus State Academy's website, the academy currently consists of six institutes, a medical institute, a law institute, an economics and management institute, a digital technologies institute, an engineering institute, and an agriculture institute, as well as a design and arts faculty, a vocational college, and an open education institute specializing in supplementary educational programs.

The North Caucasus State Academy runs 68 higher education and vocational education programs.

Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin signed a decree in December 2022 to set up 16 military training centers at federal state universities.
