Putin asks Russian Security Council to work thru defense, security cooperation with Belarus, to extend every agreement

MOSCOW. April 6 (Interfax) - Russian President Vladimir Putin has backed the proposal of his Belarusian counterpart Alexander Lukashenko that bilateral security agreements be extended.

"Alexander Grigoryevich [Lukashenko] has proposed that some of our earlier agreements be extended. I fully support that. For my part, I am asking our Security Council to work through everything designated by the Belarusian president today as a priority in this area," Putin said at a meeting of the Supreme State Council of the Russia-Belarus Union State on Thursday.

The drafting of the Union State security concept, which was put on the agenda and discussed on Thursday, has big significance, Putin said.

"This document is expected to formulate fundamental tasks of our interaction amid growing tensions on the external borders of our states and the sanctions and information war waged on us," he said.
