Russian Navy conducts missile drills in Baltic Sea

MOSCOW. April 6 (Interfax) - A strike group of ships has practiced destroying mock naval targets with electronic cruise missile launches during an exercise in the Baltic Sea, the Baltic Fleet said in a statement on Thursday.

"The Baltic Fleet's strike groups, comprised of the Zelyony Dol and Grad missile ships and the Chuvashiya and Dimitrovgrad missile boats of the Baltic naval base, completed the missions of searching for mock enemy ships and transport in the Baltic Sea," the statement said.

"After the search practice, the detected naval targets were subjected to electronic launches with Kalibr and Moskit missile systems," it said.

All targets were successfully hit.

"The ships completed a set of tasks in repelling enemy airstrikes and preventive grenade-throwing while anchored in an unprotected roadstead," the statement said.

The Kalibr is a family of Russian long-range cruise missiles developed by the Novator Design Bureau (part of the Almaz-Antey Air Defense Concern). Advanced Russian ships and submarines are equipped with these missiles.
