MOSCOW. April 7 (Interfax) - An agent of Ukraine's special services and a person helping him have been detained in the Kherson region, the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) said.
"The Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation detained an agent of Ukrainian special services and an individual acting on his orders. They were gathering information about deployment sites and the number of Russian Armed Forces units in the territory of the Kherson region," the FSB said on Friday.
Information about Russian forces' displacement routes and military hardware and weapons used in the special military operation, along with maps and geographic coordinates, "was passed to staff officers of the Security Service of Ukraine [SBU] via internet messengers," it said.
"This information was then forwarded by the SBU to representatives of paramilitary formations of Ukraine to adjust artillery and missile strikes on positions of the Russian Armed Forces," the FSB said.
Criminal cases have been opened against the Ukrainian citizens on espionage charges, which carry up to 20 years in prison. The suspects have been remanded in custody.
The FSB has not disclosed other details of the special operation.
