Upgraded Osa missile system tested in Cuba - Belarusian defense industry authority

MINSK. April 7 (Interfax) - Test launches of an Osa air defense missile system, which has been upgraded with the help of Belarusian specialists, have taken place in Cuba, the Belarusian State Authority for Military Industry said on Friday.

"Test launches of the Osa air defense missile system, upgraded with the help of specialists from the Alevkurp company of the Belarusian State Authority for Military Industry, were conducted successfully in Cuba," the Belarusian State Authority for Military Industry said.

The tests confirmed the efficiency of a special computer made by Alevkurp for this missile system, and of the software developed for it, it said.

"The special computer replaces around a dozen outdated analog blocks from the Osa's computing mechanism that require regular checks and parameter adjustments. The upgraded equipment automatically adjusts parameters, gathers information and formulates missile guidance commands," it said.

The product helps significantly to increase the operational reliability and serviceability of the Osa air defense missile system, and makes it easier for personnel to prepare the system for combat use, the authority said.

Upgrading the Osa system is a relatively new and promising field of operations for the Alevkurp company, it said.
