Russian Emergency Situations Ministry's largescale Arctic exercise ends in Salekhard

SALEKHARD. April 7 (Interfax) - A major research and experimental exercise has concluded in Salekhard, an Interfax correspondent reported from the town on Friday.

"The 'Safe Arctic 2023' drill is over," Emergency Situations Minister Alexander Kurenkov told a meeting with officials at the Crisis Management Center in the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous District.

In all, the two-day event involved 16 induction tasks and 120 research and experimental ones in nine northern regions.

"A set of training, practical and scientific studies and measures were implemented, demonstrating the ability and readiness of the forces and equipment to operate in harsh northern latitudes. We managed to test in practice the advanced models of equipment and gear and tried out a new tactic of rescue operations," the minister said.

The exercise ended on April 7 with a large Arctic scientific-research expedition in Salekhard.

The exercise was held in the Arctic on April 6-7 at Kurenkov's initiative and on Russian President Vladimir Putin's instruction. It involved 21 federal executive agencies, two state corporations, eleven organizations, and 40 representatives from 13 countries.
