Status of 'wrongfully detained' given by Washington to journalist Gershkovich immaterial to Moscow - Russian deputy FM

MOSCOW. April 12 (Interfax) - Russia is guided by national laws, the Consular Convention and respective practices in the provision of consular access to arrested U.S. journalist Evan Gershkovich, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said on Wednesday.

"In this field, we are guided by our laws, naturally, with due account of the respective provisions of the Consular Convention, while also following respective practices," Ryabkov said.

"The Russian side does not accept any attempts at pressure," he said.

"It's immaterial to us what kind of so-called status this person is given by Washington. We will act consistent with our domestic needs, requirements, norms and all of our legislative acts applicable to this situation. No more than that," Ryabkov said.
