ROSTOV-ON-DON. April 12 (Interfax) - There is no decision to cancel the military parade in Sevastopol on May 9 just yet, as the discussions are ongoing, Sevastopol Governor Mikhail Razvozhayev said.
"The Republic of Crimea and we had a joint meeting of the operative headquarters, all law enforcement agencies and the Black Sea Fleet yesterday. V-Day celebrations were discussed. There is no decision just yet to cancel the military parade in Sevastopol on May 9," Razvozhayev said on Telegram on Wednesday.
Consultations with the Defense Ministry are underway, and a decision on holding the parade in Sevastopol is the ministry's prerogative, he said.
"The authorities in the Republic of Crimea and the hero city of Sevastopol have jointly decided not to hold festive demonstrations on May 1, the Immortal Regiment marches and the military parade on May 9. The decision has been made for security reasons," Crimea head Sergei Aksyonov said on Telegram earlier on Wednesday.
He clarified later that "the decision to cancel the festive demonstration on May 1, the Immortal Regiment march and the military parade on May 9 applied only to the Republic of Crimea."
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that governors would decide whether to hold military parades in Russian regions "from the angle of the provision of public security."
The authorities in the Kursk and Belgorod regions have decided to cancel the parades.
The high (yellow) level of terrorist alert and a medium response level are in effect in Crimea and Sevastopol.
