E-summons bill aims to streamline operation of military registration offices - Peskov

MOSCOW. April 12 (Interfax) - The bill on electronic summons for military service aims to fix the flaws in operation of military registration and enlistment offices, which happened at the start of the special military operation in Ukraine, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

Journalists noted that the bill swiftly passed the second and third readings and wondered whether the Kremlin had any questions about the document.

"Experts worked [on the bill], and numerous explanations were given in its regard. As to how it passed, that was done in accordance with the procedure envisaged in the State Duma," Peskov said.

"If you have any questions about nuances of the procedure, you should better address them to the State Duma," he said.

As for the bill in general, Peskov said, "we need to streamline the system of military records and draft [for military service]. Conscripts are bound to serve in our army by constitution. This is a constitutional duty of citizens."

"When the special military operation began, you and I saw there was a lot of mess in our military registration and enlistment offices. The purpose of this bill is to clean up this mess and make [the draft mechanism] modern, effective, and convenient for citizens," Peskov said.

"All documents of the kind are extremely important nowadays so, naturally, the State Duma views them as priority, urgent documents," he said.
