Artillery, helicopters from Russian Southern Military District undergo readiness check at highland range in Armenia

ROSTOV-ON-DON. April 12 (Interfax) - Helicopters and artillery from the military base of Russia's Southern Military District in Armenia have trained at the Alagyaz highland range as part of a readiness check, the district press service said in a statement.

"Aircraft from the Southern Military District performed training flights to the location of the readiness check of the formation's motorized infantry units, with army aviation providing fire support with all kinds of weapons, escorting the deploying convoys and delivery of ammunition and various military cargos in the mountains and on the plains," the statement said.

Before that, the aircraft trained the detection and identification of various objects, moving and immobile ground targets, armored vehicles, and low-flying low-speed airborne objects, including in nighttime, it said.

The training flights involved over 120 pilots, engineers and technicians and about 20 military and special vehicles, including Mil Mi-8MTV-5 and Kamov Ka-52 army aviation helicopters, it said.

Artillery units from the district's military base in Armenia destroyed solo and group targets at distances of one to 15 kilometers, using navigation equipment, a ballistic station, a gyrocompass and modern communication systems. Missions were accomplished by direct fire in limited visibility.

The troops also trained reconnaissance by artillery carousel. Supported by unmanned aerial vehicles, the servicemen tracked down mock enemy targets and fired on immobile and rapidly moving targets imitating a tactical landing of the enemy in the mountains.

Artillery from the Southern Military District also trained maneuvering on the battlefield, camouflage and decoy against artillery systems of the mock enemy.
