Pacific Fleet to practice deterring mock enemy's landing on South Kuril Islands, Sakhalin during readiness check - Shoigu

MOSCOW. April 14 (Interfax) - The Russian military will practice deterrence of a mock enemy's landing on the Kuril Islands and Sakhalin during the surprise readiness check of the Pacific Fleet, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said.

"There is need for practical training of methods to prevent hostile forces' deployment to an operationally important area of the Pacific Ocean - the southern part of the Sea of Okhotsk, and to deter its landing on the South Kuril Islands and the island of Sakhalin," Shoigu said at a meeting with military commanders on Friday.
