Russian Defense Ministry reports elimination of British mercenary unit in special operation's zone in Ukraine

MOSCOW. April 17 (Interfax) - An assault team from Russia's Central Military District has seized a stronghold of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and killed seven British mercenaries, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement.

"The troops killed a group of seven British mercenaries by numerous F-1 grenades and small arms and seized a stronghold of the Ukrainian Armed Forces," the ministry said.

"Scouts used unmanned aerial vehicles to detect the location of the enemy's fortified positions in a forest. The assault unit supported by tank fire stealthily crossed over 500 meters of a mined territory, crawled up to the enemy's positions, and engaged in a fierce fight," it said.

"The seized stronghold gave Russian forces control of a dominant height for successful operations," the ministry said.
