MOSCOW. April 17 (Interfax) - Diplomats from more than 20 countries were present at the Moscow City Court when it sentenced opposition member and journalist Vladimir Kara-Murza (designated as a foreign agent in Russia), the court press service told reporters.
"The hearing was attended by 40 diplomats from 24 embassies, including those of the United States, France, the United Kingdom, Canada, Belgium, Denmark, New Zealand, Lithuania, Finland, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Germany and others," a representative of the Moscow City Court said.
Ambassador Lynne Tracy represented the United States.
The court said the diplomats were not allowed into the courtroom, but listened to the sentence from another room.
Earlier on Monday, the Moscow City Court sentenced Kara-Murza to 25 years in a high-security penitentiary on counts of treason, cooperation with an undesirable organization, and dissemination of false information about the actions of the Russian Armed Forces. He was fined 400,000 rubles and barred from journalistic activity for seven years.
Kara-Murza's defense said it would challenge the sentence in an appeals court.
