MOSCOW. April 18 (Interfax) - The State Duma passed an amendment on denaturalization for threatening Russia's national security on Tuesday.
Earlier, head of the Russian Interior Ministry's Main Migration Department Valentina Kazakova said at an meeting of the State Duma Committee on Legislation and State Building that "this amendment is absolutely necessary under [current] circumstances."
The amendment will apply to individuals naturalized in Russia, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on CIS Affairs Leonid Kalashnikov said.
According to the amendment, denaturalization for actions directed against Russian national security will be sanctioned by a federal executive authority dealing with internal affairs, or its territorial bodies.
Another amendment says that an individual denaturalized for actions threatening Russia's national security may file a new citizenship application no earlier than three years after denaturalization.
The amendment passed during the second hearing of the presidential bill on citizenship.
