MOSCOW. April 18 (Interfax) - Moscow has expressed a strong protest to British Ambassador Deborah Bronnert regarding her comments following the sentencing of opposition member and journalist Vladimir Kara-Murza (designated as a foreign agent in Russia), the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on its website.
"British Ambassador in Moscow Deborah Bronnert was summoned to the Russian Foreign Ministry on April 18 and a strong protest was voiced in connection with her unacceptable comments and the provocative statements made by the British Foreign Office after the sentencing of Russian citizen Vladimir Kara-Murza by the Moscow City Court on counts of treason and false information about the Russian army," the statement said.
The ministry told the British ambassador that Moscow viewed the calls for annulling the Russian court's verdict as flagrant interference in the country's internal affairs. Bronnert was also told that London's references to Kara-Murza's British citizenship had no legal value in Russia's jurisdiction, the statement said.
