WASHINGTON. April 19 (Interfax) - The U.S. administration is concerned about the Moscow City Court's decision to dismiss an appeal against the arrest of Evan Gershkovich, a correspondent of The Wall Street Journal (WSJ)'s Moscow bureau, White House spokesperson Karine Jean-Pierre said on Tuesday.
"We are deeply concerned by the news that Russia will continue to wrongfully detain Evan," Jean-Pierre said in response to a request for comment.
She said that the U.S. administration was interacting with Russia through every available channel to bring Evan Gershkovich and Paul Whelan, serving time in Russia, back home, but refused to provide details of the ongoing negotiations.
On April 18, the Moscow City Court upheld the arrest of Gershkovich, charged with spying, until May 29. The defense asked the court for non-custodial restraint of Gershkovich.
