PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKY. April 19 (Interfax) - The Tomsk nuclear submarine has trained destruction of a mock enemy's carrier group during a surprise readiness check of the Russian Pacific Fleet, the Defense Ministry said.
The mock target was detected at a distance of over 200 kilometers and identified as a strike group led by a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier.
A simulated launch of 22 Granit anti-ship cruise missiles at the mock enemy was performed, after which the submarine maneuvered and left the area, the ministry said.
"The Tomsk nuclear submarine was put on full alert during a surprise readiness check of the Pacific Fleet. It was deployed to the practice area to train the destruction of hostile carrier groups, landing teams and convoys," Tomsk commander Roman Velichenko told reporters.
