Trilateral agreements are sole realistic basis for Karabakh settlement - Peskov (Part 2)

MOSCOW. April 19 (Interfax) - The trilateral agreements between the leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia are the most realistic basis for the Karabakh and Armenian-Azerbaijani settlement process, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

Journalists asked Peskov on Wednesday to comment on the latest statements by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev regarding the way to resolve the conflict. "These trilateral agreements are the sole real, realistic basis for a settlement. So we consider progress in implementing all of their provisions to be without any alternative, and necessary for everyone," he said.

Commenting on the statements about ways to settle the conflict made by the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan on Tuesday, Peskov said, "We are ready to welcome any steps from the [two] sides to help ease tensions and contribute to further progress in fulfilling the Russian-Armenian-Azerbaijani trilateral agreements."

Pashinyan said on Tuesday that Armenia recognized the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and expected Baku to act likewise.

In turn, Aliyev noted Yerevan's changed stance on the Karabakh settlement, and said that residents of Nagorno-Karabakh should either accept Azerbaijani citizenship or leave the region.
