CHISINAU. April 19 (Interfax) - Nearly 60% of Moldovans favor their country's accession to the European Union, according to the findings of a public opinion poll conducted by CBS-AXA under a contract with the watchdog.md non-governmental organization.
If a referendum on Moldova's accession to various political blocs was held in the near future, 58.8% of those polled said they would favor integration with the EU, and 22.9% with the Eurasian Economic Union.
Watchdog.md Director Valeriu Pasa said the number of those favoring European integration has increased by 8% compared to a similar poll in March, due to the fact that the share of those who are undecided has declined since then.
In the event of a referendum on Moldova's accession to NATO, 52.6% of the respondents would be opposed, and 34.6% in favor.
"The number those who advocate joining the military bloc has grown by 5% compared to the findings in March, while in contrast, the number of opponents to this initiative has somewhat declined," Pasa said.
The telephone poll of 1,015 respondents was conducted on April 4-13.
