ROSTOV-ON-DON. April 20 (Interfax) - A Victory Day parade due to take place in Sevastopol on May 9 has been cancelled at the military's decision, Sevastopol Governor Mikhail Razvozhayev said.
"The Black Sea Fleet commander said yesterday that the Defense Ministry has decided against holding a parade in Sevastopol. For this reason, every plan to prepare for this event will be reviewed," Razvozhayev said at a meeting of the city administration on Thursday.
Victory Day will be celebrated in any case, and the respective organizing committee will meet next week, Razvozhayev said.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said earlier that governors would decide whether to hold parades in Russian regions based on public security considerations.
Parades have been cancelled in the Kursk and Belgorod regions, in Crimea and in the Kherson region.
