MOSCOW. April 25 (Interfax) - Russia's potential enemies should not underestimate the chances that Russia might use nuclear weapons, Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev said.
"You've said that Russia will never use nuclear weapons first. You know, this is not quite true," Medvedev said at the Znaniye. Pervye educational marathon.
He referred to the foundations of Russia's state policy in the field of nuclear deterrence.
"It clearly states that nuclear weapons may be used when aggression has been launched against the Russian Federation with the use of other types of weapons that threaten the state's very existence. This in fact means the use of nuclear weapons in response to such actions," he said.
"And our potential enemies should not underestimate this," he said.
