Total of 127 terror attacks, including 13 involving minors, recorded in Russia in 2022 - prosecutor general (Part 2)

MOSCOW. April 26 (Interfax) - A total of 127 terror attacks, including 13 involving minors, were recorded in Russia in 2022, Russian Prosecutor General Igor Krasnov said.

"Preventing young people from involvement in extremist and other illegal activity remains a priority. This is genuinely a pressing issue, as 13 out of 127 terror attacks registered in 2022 were carried out with the participation of minors," Krasnov said in his annual report at the Federation Council on Wednesday.

Last year, Russia "encountered overt interference in its domestic policies, and external attempts to influence public sentiment and political processes," Krasnov said.

"False reports of terror attacks were sent on a large scale to the population in all constituent territories for the purpose of sowing panic and destabilizing the situation," he said.

Twenty-three foreign and international non-governmental organizations were designated as undesirable last year, and the activity of another 17 NGOs, branded extremist or terrorist, was completely banned, Krasnov said.

"Daily monitoring of the Internet uncovered illegal content on more than 180,000 webpages, and all of these were blocked at our demand. We suspended broadcasting for certain television and radio channels that were spreading overt lies and unlawful information," he said.

"We cannot rule out that the Kiev regime will intensify its attempts to commit terror attacks on our country's territory," Krasnov said. Therefore, preventive measures taken in regions to protect critical infrastructure and hazardous facilities should be enhanced as much as possible, he said.

"First of all, this should be done for transport infrastructure, polling stations, public areas, and at accommodation for displaced individuals. We have taken corresponding countermeasures," Krasnov said.

In particular, prosecutors insisted that [in the regions] they use the Safe City integrated information system for monitoring and preventing terrorist threats, he said.
