MOSCOW. April 26 (Interfax) - Russian troops have trained in using small arms and weapons mounted on combat vehicles on the Kuril Islands, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement on Wednesday.
"Servicemen from motorized infantry units from the Eastern Military District's Army Corps stationed on the Kuril Islands have passed a test for using small arms and standard combat vehicle weapons," the statement said.
"The units fired Kord heavy machine guns in three stages: emplacements were suppressed first, followed by the destruction of mock enemy artillery and lightly armored vehicles," it said.
The infantry fired at targets from fixed positions and while on the move, in the daytime and at night, and changed their positions, it said.
"Combat vehicles used tracer ammunition to fire at immobile targets at night," it said.
"All troops from the formations and military units of the Eastern Military District's Army Corps trained in driving combat vehicles at tank and vehicle driving ranges, and passed radiation, chemical and biological protection tests," it said.
