China to dispatch ex-Ambassador to Russia Li Hui as envoy for Ukraine settlement

BEIJING. April 26 (Interfax) - China will dispatch a special representative to Ukraine and some other countries to deal with a political settlement of the Ukraine crisis, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Hua Chunying said on Wednesday.

"China will send the special representative of the Chinese government on Eurasian affairs to Ukraine and other countries to have in-depth communication with all parties on political settlement of the Ukraine crisis," Hua wrote on Twitter.

China's special government representative on Eurasian affairs is former Ambassador to Russia Li Hui.

Xinhua reported that Chinese President Xi Jinping informed Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky of the decision on sending an envoy for Ukraine in a phone call earlier on Wednesday. This has been the first conversation between the two leaders since February 2022.
